'YouTube' drivers fined Dh1,000 for recklessness - The National Newspaper

I posted the crazy driving video a couple of weeks ago, well here's an article that fallows. The drivers were fined DHS1 000 which is about $300 CND!!! Isn't that crazy???!!! That's all they got...

Recently the government lowered all the ticket prices by 50% and the government explained it's because people couldn't afford paying them off and also it's to encourage good driving??? Not sure how that's going to work out, if I find the article I will post it.

Sheikh Zayed Road Madness!

So this was in the news a couple of weeks ago. Crazy local drivers in Dubai, these kids were obviously showing off but I don't think you can see anything like this any where else in the world. Apperantly 2 people have been arrested after this video surfaced on the web. This was taped in the early morning rush hour.

We still don't understand this

You know when you purchase a new car from the dealer it is fully covered in plastic inside well, in the UAE people leave the plastic on. Why you ask? We're not sure, maybe it's to show that the car is new and bought from a dealer and not second hand, but really we really have no idea. No one has been able to explain this to us. All I'm thinking is that it must be pretty uncomfortable sitting on plastic when it's +50C outside.

No Baby Yet

We are exactly 1 week away from the official due date (June 21) for Baby Khairy #2 to join us. Both Steve & I can't wait for this child to arrive as it's been getting harder and harder each day that I get bigger and bigger. I'm glad that the baby waited for Steve to come back from London, but now that he's back I'm ready for this child to come out!

Saw the midwife this morning and she said that as of next week if I still don't give birth I will be seeing a doctor. I'm hoping that I will go into labor in the next couple of days. Cross your fingers everyone!

Montreal April 2010

As I mentioned in my previous blog we went to Montreal for a wedding. It was a very short visit, only 10 days, but it was all worth it in the end. We did not know if we were going to make it because of the volcano ash, but we got lucky and were able to fly out on our scheduled dates.
The wedding was great, danced my belly off! Congratulations to Eric and Niamh it was a beautiful day.
Here are some pics from the wedding and the rest of our stay in MTL.

It's been way too long...

Hello Family & Friends,

I know that it has been way too many months since I last blogged, I know not because of my own guilt but because it has been so long since my last blog that Steve has stopped nagging on me to post. :-(

I truly am sorry and without giving you any excuses I will try my best to update everything on here before babe # 2 arrives.

So since my last post we have settled in our new home. We absolutely love living outside of the city and enjoying the peacefulness. We spend lots more time outside in our yard and at the pool. Lea is LOVING it!

Steve is back to BBQ and it just feels nice being comfortable. The only down side to living outside of the city is that when we have a sand storm we really get it hard. Sand has a way of making it into place where I never thought I would find sand, but here in the UAE it just everywhere.

We went to Montreal for a wedding and then we took a week vacation in Paris. When we came back after being away for 3 weeks our yard was covered in about an inch of sand. Apparently we missed 3 sand storms. We were cleaning the yard and all of Lea's outdoor toys for 2 days straight, but now it's all back to normal.

Steve started teaching!!! He is teaching the CFA level 1 Ethics topic and his first class was an incredible success. I'm so proud of him because he worked really hard to give a great lesson. He recently received an e-mail from the owner of the company for which he is teaching that he has received the highest score 98.3% from his students. He is a natural!!! For now I think he'll only be teaching Ethics, but with time when he gets more comfortable and confident he will teach other topics as well.

Lea is doing great, growing up fast. She talks, but in her own language which we still haven't decoded. The only recognizable words that we heard her say are "no" and "credit card". That's right, credit card! Other than that she is becoming more and more independent each day and her character is really coming through. We've had some melt downs, but other than the normal I guess she's one awesome kid. She has taken an interest in my belly now that it's really big, but I think she's more interested in my protruding belly button than what's inside. Trying telling her that there's a baby inside and that's it's her little brother or sister, but I don't that she gets the concept yet. We only have 3 weeks left and then we'll see how she'll react to the new sibling :-)

That's it for now about us...I will now upload some pics from Montreal, Paris and here.

Till next time!

What we've been up to

Since my last post we've been very busy.

1)We received the keys to our new place last weekend and since then we've been going there almost every night to clean and move in some of our stuff. With my belly growing and Lea being demanding to always play with her I'm kind of useless in helping Steve so yesterday we hired a helper that can help Steve with moving and lifting as well as he can clean up the place. Steve was very happy with the progress they made yesterday. Our official move is this Saturday and I'm not sure how I will be able to get in touch with you guys as we don't have internet in the new place yet and it might take weeks before we get the connection :-(

2)We had to travel to Dubai to pick up our second car which took some time.

3) Miss Lea has finally decided to take her first steps!!! Just a couple of days ago she just decided to walk between Steve and I without wanting to sit on her bum for security. She made as many as 10 steps on her own but still needs at least a finger from one of us to continue walking more and walking is all she wants to do now!

That's it for now.

Our New Home!

So here are the first pictures of our new home. We should be receiving the keys today so we will slowly move things and then the furniture and big things will be moved next Saturday. We are super excited about this place, it's about 20 - 30 min outside of the city downtown core, but it's all worth the trip for the fact that it's brand new and we have our own home not an apartment with a pool and a yard!!! We can BBQ all year round :-)

All Women Hospital

I went to register at the Corniche Hospital this morning, this will most likely be the hospital where I give birth. The hospital is staffed by only women! I was told that there is only 1 male OB/GYN. It's so odd to see just women walking around and serving you. Steve is allowed to come for my appointments and can be there for the delivery, but while we wait to get in for the appointment he has to wait in a totally seperate waiting room!!!

Lea's Favorite Things

We don't know how she figured it out, but for a while now one of her favorite things is a necklace. No one at home wears one so we're not sure where she picked it up from and figured it out that you wear it around your neck. From the moment she wakes up she puts it on and wears it all day long.

The other favorite thing is a cell phone, that one wasn't too hard to figure out why she would want to play with one :-)

It's 2010 & so many things are happening!!!

Hello to All!

I know it's been way too long and from our trip back home I found out that there are quite a few followers of our blog. I am sorry to have disappointed you in the last couple of months, but as most of you know we have been very busy and the blog has sort of landed on the back burner.

So from the start, we spent our Christmas Holidays in Montreal which was great. It really takes a long time to get back home, but it's so worth it. We're sorry we didn't get the chance to see everyone, but again we were running on a tight schedule and since Lea's in our lives we're kind of running on her schedule :-)

Montreal was great, seeing friends and family and our Church community was awesome and well worth the travel. Getting back to Abu Dhabi took us longer than normal as our flight out of Montreal was over 5 hours late. We missed our connection in Frankfurt and therefore we were rebooked to fly to Abu Dhabi via Jordan. All in all we really only travelled 5 hours longer than originally planned, but we were exhausted at the end. Lea did her best to be nice to us, but poor thing was just over the top tired.

Once we got back the first week was rough. Steve got sick and Lea was very jet-lagged and would wake up every night at around 1am and would stay up for about 5 hours wanting to play. That's all over now, she's back to her normal sleeping pattern and Steve's much better. As soon as we got back we were searching for a new place to live as we decided that we can no longer stay in our current apartment. 1) Because it's way too expensive, 2) the building is not well maintained, 3) we got fed up of dealing with the constant traffic as we live at the very beginning of the island.

We searched and searched and haven't found one place that really hit every right spot, the place itself, the price and the location. God was really on our side through this entire process because every time we almost said yes to a place something else came up and we would move on. We were exhausted looking and not being able to settle on something, but it was all worth it in the end. Last night we found our place! We were not even going to that location, but God works in miraculous ways and he stirred us in the right direction. We found a town house/villa a little outside of the city; it's brand new with 3 bedrooms in a small compound with a communal pool. The place is really great and it was way under our budget which makes it even more exciting. We will have to get a second car and Steve will no longer be able to walk to work, but in the worst case scenario it should take him between 20 - 30 minutes to get to work. We're about 2 minutes away from a brand new shopping mall and we'll have the peace and quiet of suburban life. Once we get in there I will most definitely take pictures and post them for all of you to see.

Saying all of that please forgive me if you don't hear from us for a while as we have to move in the next 2 weeks and we're not sure how long it will take for us to get internet in our new place.

Happy belated New Year to all of you!
